Welcome to the Argentine Township Property Room

The property room exists to store, maintain and secure the evidentiary value of evidence, property and items held for permanent disposal.

What should I do if my personal property was lost or stolen?
You should file a report with us as soon as possible. Please include any pictures, serial numbers, or any unique attributes of your lost item. Items with serial numbers are more likely to be returned to the owner.

How do I retrieve my property if it was taken and held for safekeeping?
Property releases are made by appointment only. Please call the police department at (810) 735-5317 to schedule a release of your property. If you are attempting to retrieve a firearm, and background check will be performed by the police department to determine eligibility to possess a firearm.

How do I retrieve property taken as evidence?
All property taken by the Argentine Township Police Dept. as evidence or stolen property is held until destruction if ordered by the Detective Bureau, or release is ordered by the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office.  We will not release property involved in an ownership dispute until rightful ownership is determined by a court order, in which you must obtain.

How do I claim my firearm?
The claimant must complete a written Request for Gun Release form, in addition to complying with evidence and property procedures above. A background check will be performed to determine the eligibility of the claimant to possess the weapon. Background checks can take up to 15 days and an appointment will be scheduled once this check is complete.

The following property is in possession of the Argentine Township Police Department and will be disposed of in accordance with Michigan State Law and the Policies and Procedures of the Argentine Township Police Department.

To claim an item:
Contact the police department either in person or on the phone with an accurate description of the item you think belongs to you. If you have receipts or pictures of the item, that will help establish proper ownership. If you are unable to describe the item in question accurately, the item will not be released to you.

A photo ID, such as a driver's license or state identification card must be provided for our records.
